trip details
Day 1 – Lima, Peru

Lima is located in the central coastal area of Peru. Well known as a culinary center, the local seafood in Lima is to die for. The traditional cuisine is called criollo. VIP Journeys recommends trying the ceviche as well as other popular dishes like jalea , tiradito (fish in lemon juice), lomo saltado (stir fried veggies and pork) and arroz con pollo (chicken and rice dish). Lima is full of culture and history. The excellent museums, Spanish baroque churches, and distinguished mansions all tell a story.

We’ll start by touring both Colonial and Modern Lima. In the morning we will visit colonial Lima including the 17th century San Francisco Convent, the Government Palace, City Hall and the Cathedral at the Plaza Mayor. Our tour of Modern Lima will include the modern districts of San Isidro and Miraflores. Miraflores and San Insidro offer some of the best shops and hotels in the area. Known for their culture and entertainment and considered large business and tourist hubs, Sand Isidro and Miraflores are extremely lively areas. The upscale neighborhood of Miraflores which means “look at the flowers” has gorgeous gardens and beaches. The pacific ocean views from modern Lima are incredible.

After your tour, lunch will be served and then we are off to visit the Larco Herrera Museum. Since 1926 the Larco Herrera Museum has housed the world’s largest private collection of pre-Columbian art with a unique assortment of erotic pottery, and genuine gold, silver and semi-precious stoned jewels. This gorgeous museum holds over 45,000 pieces of ceramics plus genuine mummies and textiles. In the evening we will enjoy Lima’s grand nightlife before traveling on to Cusco and The Sacred Valley the next day.

Day 2 – Lima – Cusco - Sacred Valley

Once checked out of the hotel, you’ll head to the airport for a relaxing flight to Cuzco. Cusco is magnificent. The colonial architecture, deeply rooted history, and gorgeous scenic views help make the city extraordinary.

Before heading to the exclusive Monasterio Hotel, a private tour guide will open your eyes to the area’s traditional customs and hidden treasures. Known as the archaeological capital of the Americas, this premier South American destination is also the gateway to Machu Picchu.

Start you visit with a tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Picture perfect villages, beautiful scenery and warm and friendly locals all reflect the Peru that visitors travel thousands of miles to see. The Sacred Valley is home to some of the finest Incan sites in all of Peru. From local markets filled with colorful folk art and crafts, to villages that have gone unchanged for centuries, the Sacred Valley is simply amazing. Appreciated by the Incas for its special geographical qualities, the Sacred Valley contains numerous archaeological remains and villages. The authenticity of the area provides travelers with an enlightening and enchanting travel experience. Observe your surroundings, appreciate the history, and relax.

Day 3 – Sacred Valley

The Sacred Valley is generally understood to include Písac and Ollantaytambo, as well as everything parallel to the Urubamba River. We’ll have lunch in Urubamba, visit the market at Pisac, enjoy a visit to the beautiful Inca village and fortress of Ollantaytambo, and make a brief stop at the Quechua village of Chinchero before heading back to Cusco. As we admire the area’s magnificent past, we’ll stroll through the quaint streets of the Sacred Valley town where you will be able to observe an astonishing view of the Urubamba valley. Our night will end in Sacred Valley where we will lay our heads before heading to Machu Picchu.

Day 4 – Machu Picchu

Today is all about the Lost City of the Incas. After a delicious gourmet lunch, we’ll head towards Aguas Calientes, located at the foot of Machu Picchu. (3h30min train ride). Built around the year 1450, but abandoned a hundred years later, at the time of the Spanish conquest of the Incan Empire, Machu Picchu is one of the world’s most important heritage sites. Though it was forgotten for centuries, the area was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. Since then, Machu Picchu has become an important tourist attraction. It was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

We’ll be staying at The Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. Run by the prestigious Orient Express group, this fabulous hotel is only steps away from the entrance to the Incan ruins at Machu Picchu, Nothing compares to this spectacular location. Referred to as a blissful sanctuary in the sky, the area is gorgeous. Enjoy an early hike up the Inca trail, or breathtaking views from your balcony The hotel’s privileged location allows guests to enjoy magical sunrises and sunsets in relative solitude before and after the majority of other visitors have arrived or departed. For relaxing there is an interior garden with a variety of flowers and orchids and stunning panoramic views. The experience is amazing. Perfect location. Great service. Unique journey.

Day 5 – Machu Picchu – Cusco

Though we leave Machu Picchu behind, we head back to the wonderful city of Cusco. Cuzco, one of the most interesting cities in Peru, is the ancient capital of the Inca Empire and is deeply-rooted with Indian culture. The city looks and feels like the very definition of an Andean capital. It's a fascinating blend of pre-Columbian and colonial history as well as contemporary mestizo culture. The Incas made Q'osqo (meaning "navel of the world" in Quechua) the political, military, and cultural center of their empire, which stretched up and down the Andes, from Ecuador to Chile. Cusco was the empire's holy city, and it was also the epicenter of the legendary Inca network of roads connecting all points in the empire. To go over the historical center of Cuzco, is to walk a city that was traced and designed by the Incas. We will visit Chinchero, Maras, Moray, Tipon, Andahuaylillas, and Raqchi, and enjoy their various traditions and folklore. Cusco is the most visited tourist destination in Peru. Though many travel here VIP Tour Group ensures distinct details, exquisite service, and pure luxury.

In the morning we’ll enjoy a private tour of Cuzco and the area’s nearby ruins and in the afternoon, we’ll explore the magical capital of the Incas on a tour that includes a visit to the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and the Santo Domingo convent monastery. The Santo Domingo monastery was built over the Koricancha temple - one of the most important temples dedicated to the worship of the sun.

From there we will leisurely stroll through the city’s very narrow streets and soak up the tremendous cultural atomosphere. We’ll visit Sacsayhuaman, the temple and amphitheatre of Kenko, as well as the grand Red Fortress of Puca Pucara. Cuzco is divine. Full of historical treasures and gems, Cuzco is a splendid combination old and new. You’re reminded of the incan civilization yet impressed by the areas marvelous modernity. Be adventurous. Explore the area and simply take in your magnificent surroundings.

If you stare closely enough, at low tide, you’ will witness marine iguanas grazing upon emerald green algae beds.

Day 10 – Galapagos Islands Cruise on the Grand Odyssey

This final leg of this journey includes a morning bus ride that will take you to the highlands of Santa Cruz Island for a special opportunity to view the islands’ most famous reptile: the giant tortoises in their wild habitat.
