Jericoacara

Jeri, short for Jericoacoara, is a place removed from the hurried modern world of screeching sirens, maniac
deadlines, traffic jams and endless lineups. Best known as Brazil’s windsurfing capital and lined with huge sand
dunes and great sunsets, Jeri doesn’t disappoint. A place where streets are paved with sand, where beaches
stretch as far as the eye can see and where warm water marries with palm swaying breezes. Until about 20
years ago, Jericoacoara was still a secluded and simple fishing village. There were no roads, no electricity, no
phones, no TV's, no newspapers, and money was rarely used. Most commerce was made by the trading of
goods such as fish for rice, and so forth. It became popular amongst backpackers and more adventurous
travelers seeking unknown and unusual locations.
In 1984, the "Washington Post Magazine" named
Jericoacoara as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. Since then, the small fishing village has
been slowly growing. However, thanks to building limitations, you will not find massive buildings or hotels.
However, there's still plenty here for those not interested in wind-propelled sports here; with such activates
as sand boarding, visits to the nearby crystalline lagoons and just simply chilling out on one of the stunning
beaches. Jericoacoara truly is a unique location, quite unlike any other beach destination in the world and one that you're likely to remember for years to come.
