Costa Rica

Widely recognized as the world’s foremost ecotourism destination, Costa Rica is a small but beautiful country with a truly dramatic landscape filled with natural wonders and diverse ecosystems.

From vast stretches of Caribbean and Pacific coastline, wild rainforests and wide open savannas, to imposing mountains, lush river valleys and beguiling cloud forests, Costa Rica is a country that is as appealing to families and honeymooners as it is to luxury travelers and adventure seekers.

Ticos are a friendly, peace-loving group who, as a collective, have gone to great lengths to protect and preserve the natural beauty of their country, and they love to celebrate the good things in life, hence the informal country mantra, “Pura Vida.” Here, you’ll find all manner of activities designed to explore the varied regions and ecological wonders of Costa Rica. There is world-class scuba diving, snorkeling and sport fishing, as well as extreme adventures like canyoning, white water rafting, zip lines and canopy tours. Softer adventure also is available, such as rain and cloud forest hikes, horseback tours, volcano treks and safari floats. All of these allow visitors to catch a glimpse of the truly staggering amount of wildlife that makes its home here. Of course, no one will be the wiser should you decide to simply kick back and unwind at the beach.

The most popular destination in Costa Rica is Manuel Antonio National Park. While a mecca for nature lovers, it also is close to the Central Pacific Beaches of Manuel Antonio and Quepos. Another popular Pacific Coast beach region is Guanacaste-Nicoya. Here, you’ll find the sun-drenched Gulf of Papagayo, the wild and remote Punta Islita and Rincon de la Vieja National Park, as well as the surf mecca of Santa Teresa and Mal Pais and the well-known Tamarindo and Mansita areas. Of course the most active volcano in Costa Rica isn’t too far from here either. Arenal’s verdant landscape is a veritable cornucopia of biodiversity and is easily combined with a trip to the Central Pacific Beaches.

Other popular destinations in this vibrant country include the colorful and laid-back Caribbean Coast. It gets more rain than its Pacific counterpart, but you won’t want to miss Puerto Viejo, Manzanillo and the Cahuita National Park. The rare and magical cloud forests of Monteverde warrant a visit, as does the Poas Cloud Forest, also boasting one of the largest volcano craters on Earth. Osa and the southern region are a secluded natural wonderland declared “one of the most biologically intense places on Earth” by National Geographic Magazine, while the country’s capital of San Jose and the surrounding Central Valley are home to the country’s best restaurants and easy day trips to Poas, Pacuare, La Paz, Irazu, Siquirres and so much more.

Live pura vida in Costa Rica, and celebrate the good life.
